Novosibirsk Region and the Republic of Belarus Returned to the Issue of Direct Flights Resumption

On January 22, a meeting on resumption of direct regular flights between Novosibirsk and Minsk was held in Minsk as part of the visit of the official delegation of the Novosibirsk Region to the Republic of Belarus.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication of the Republic of Belarus Alexey Lyakhnovich, Minister of Transport and Road Facilities of the Novosibirsk region, Anatoly Kostylevsky, General Director of JSC "Belavia Airline Company" Anatoly Gusarov, Deputy General Director for production of RUE "National airport of Minsk" Vasiliy Kornev, General Director of S7 Airlines Vladimir Obyedkov and General Director of JSC "Airport Tolmachevo" Evgeniy Yankilevich.

Following the meeting results, it was decided to work on resumption of flights between Novosibirsk and the capital of the Republic of Belarus. Commercial departments of Minsk and Novosibirsk airports as well as Belavia and S7 Airlines will work out the possibilities for flights resumption. It is planned to rediscuss the issue in March.

"Novosibirsk – Minsk air service is strategically important to ensure further development of economic relations between the Novosibirsk region and the Republic of Belarus. However, flight duration, high tariffs and competition with flights through Moscow air hub make it a challenge for the stakeholders. In this regard, it was decided to work together to ensure economic efficiency of flights. The parties will make every effort to make a competitive offer to passengers both in terms of convenience and cost'', commented on the meeting results General Director of JSC "Airport Tolmachevo Evgeniy Yankilevich.

Tolmachevo airport is ready to offer convenient connections for flights to the cities of Eastern Siberia and the Far East, as well as to China, Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia to passengers coming from Minsk. National airport of Minsk, in its turn, can become an attractive hub for further travel in Europe for passengers coming from the Novosibirsk airport.

We remind that the official delegation of the Novosibirsk region is working in the Republic of Belarus from 21 to 24 January. Andrey Travnikov, the Governor of the region, headed the delegation. The main purpose of the trip is to hold the 4th meeting of the Business Cooperation Counsel between the Novosibirsk region and the Republic of Belarus.

As part of the business trip, it is also planned to sign agreements, contracts, letters of understanding, memorandums of cooperation between municipalities, institutions and enterprises of the Novosibirsk region and the Republic of Belarus. The delegation includes: members of the Government of the Novosibirsk region, heads of the leading universities and enterprises of the region, representatives of science, culture and public organizations.

The Republic of Belarus is one of the largest partners of the Novosibirsk region in terms of the foreign trade turnover. For 11 months of 2018, the foreign trade turnover with the Republic of Belarus amounted to 152.4 million US dollars (149.3 million US dollars in 2017).

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub east of the Urals on the main air routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, and international terminal capacity is 1,300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II categories.
