Results of 2018: Passenger Traffic Increased by More than 901,000 Passengers

Passenger traffic of Tolmachevo airport in 2018 increased by more than 901,000 and amounted to 5,909,078 passengers (+18%). Passenger traffic on domestic routes increased by 20.6% to 4,281,799 and that on international routes — up to 1,627,279 (+11,7%).

In December 2018 the greatest growth of passenger traffic was recorded on routes from Novosibirsk to Ust-Kut (+248.9%), Chelyabinsk (+134.2%), Blagoveshchensk (+93.6%). Kyzyl (+82.2%), Perm (+73%), Khanty-Mansiysk (+60.9%). The highest growth demonstrated the following international destinations: Namangan (+176%), Phu Quoc (+99.8%), Prague (+65.1%), Hong Kong (+49.9%) and others.

Following the results of 2018 Tolmachevo airport serviced 29,390 aircraft movements (+17.1% to the same period of 2017).

In twelve months of 2018, 31,933 tons of cargo and mail were handled (+8.5% to the figure of 2017), which is a record in the history of the airport.

Positive dynamics in passenger traffic in 2018 is caused by the opening of new destinations and the increase in frequency on existing routes, as well as the implementation of the S7 Airlines project for the hub development at Tolmachevo airport.

Thanks to the development of transfer traffic the number of passengers, using Tolmachevo as a transfer hub amounted to 1.357 million (+35% versus 2017) following the results of 2018. Their share in the total passenger traffic increased to 23%, ensuring Tolmachevo airport second place in Russia after Moscow hub airports.

As Evgeniy Yankilevich, General Director of JSC "Tolmachevo Airport", put it, following the results of 2019 the airport is planning to increase this figure to 1.750 million passengers with a target total passenger traffic of 6.8 million.

In 2018 there was an increase in the number of flights to Krasnodar, new S7 Airlines flights to Rostov-on-don were opened, Azimut airlines continued flights to this destination also. S7 Airlines flights to the Far East cities, such as Blagoveshchensk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno Sakhalinsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Magadan and the cities of Yakutia, such as Yakutsk, Mirny, Neryungri were performed with greater frequency.

Regular flights to Karaganda opened in 2017 continued. Air Astana airline company continued performing its daily flight to Astana. S7 Airlines opened flights to Pavlodar, increased flights frequency to Yerevan, Almaty and Tbilisi. Uzbekistan Airways airline company increased flights frequency to Tashkent. S7 Airlines operated flights to Minsk during the summer period.

Near International destinations were also opened in 2018. S7 Airlines opened the first in the history direct regular flight from Novosibirsk to Tokyo, regular flight to Cam Ranh and continued regular flights to Bangkok, which was the significant event of 2018. AZUR air opened flights to new charter destinations to Dalaman and Hammamet, Royal Flight continued flights to Phu Quoc. Regular flights of S7 Airlines were added to charter flights to Larnaka. There was an increase in the number of flights to Seoul, Prague, Dubai, Hong Kong and Harbin. Capacity for flights to Antalya has been increased partly owing to flights operated by Rossiya airline on Boeing 747 aircraft.

The work on expansion of Tolmachevo airport route network will be continued in 2019. It is planned to open regular flights to Guangzhou, Sanya, Ulan Bator, Bukhara, Batumi, Novokuznetsk, Ust Kut. Further increase in flights frequency is expected for a number of destinations, such as Ulan Ude, Chita, Vladivostok. The list of subsidized destinations from Novosibirsk to the Far East and Yakutia will be expanded to 11 routes and that of subsidized regional destinations to 19.

In 2018, following the results of the tender, a General contractor was selected to design the reconstruction of the international and domestic passenger terminal of Tolmachevo airport. It is planned to implement the reconstruction project by 2025 in two stages with the completion of the first, main stage in 2022. 11.5 billion rubles will be allocated from extra-budgetary sources for the design and construction of the passenger terminal until 2022. By 2022 the airport expects to increase passenger traffic to 10 million a year.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub east of the Urals on the main air routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, and international terminal capacity is 1,300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II categories.
