An initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), "Earth Hour" is designed to draw people's attention to the problem of climate change and environmental issues. On this day, the inhabitants of the planet participating in the action turned off their lights for one hour as a sign of concern for the future of the planet.

The issue of environmental safety is receiving increasing attention. Each large enterprise tries to make its contribution to the protection of the environment by taking various measures.

The airport considers it extremely important to comply with environmental safety standards. In Tolmachevo, there are relevant management systems, technological processes are being improved, and a range of environmental protection measures is being carried out. The apron technique is regularly updated. In accordance with the energy-saving program adopted at the airport, the transition to the use of LED lamps is underway. When carrying out construction and installation work, energy-saving technologies and materials are used.

Monitoring the degree of wastewater pollution and monitoring the state of the environment when working with production wastes are being undertaken. At the airport, collection of waste paper is organized, and in the airport terminal complex there are receptacles for separate waste collection (plastic, glass, metal cans, paper). Currently, new sewage treatment plants are being coordinated for domestic sewerage in the industrial sector of Tolmachevo Airport, providing for the connection of these networks to the sewerage networks in the city of Novosibirsk.

In 2018, "Earth Hour" in Russia will be held for the 11th time, and will take place under the slogan "Vote for Nature". In addition to turning off the lights, everyone can make a concrete step for the sake of the planet - to vote for the protection of reserves, the availability of green energy, as well as separate collection of garbage and waste recycling.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal can reach 1,800 passengers per hour, while the international terminal capacity can reach up to 1300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II Categories.
