Tolmachevo Airport Has Served 5 Millionth Passenger
On December 31, Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport reached a mark of five million passengers, including transit and transfer passengers, having served a record number of passengers in the history of the airport since the beginning of the year.
Passenger traffic increased by more than 900,000 people. In addition, in December, 2017 another winter period record was reached — 16,4 thousand served passengers per day.
The record mark became possible due to the high growth rates of passenger traffic in the first half of the year: after 6 months, the airport served two million passengers, and by August it served three million. The four-millionth passenger was served on October 18, two months earlier than in 2016.
In 2017 Tolmchevo's route network was expanded with such points as Ordos, Dusseldorf, Tbilisi, Fukuok, Karaganda, Issyk-Kul, Pevek, Omsk, and Severo-Yeniseisk. Flights to several regional destinations continued - Abakan, Kyzyl, Vitim, Perm, Tomsk, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, etc. The frequency of traveling on many of the current domestic Russian destinations has increased - Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Bratsk, Talakan, Tyumen, etc.
In the summer schedule “Rossiya Airlines” performed flights from Novosibirsk to Sochi on widebody Boeing 747 aircrafts. In the winter schedule the charter flights of Novosibirsk with Fukuok were renewed. The Nord Wind airline performs flights to Phuket on Boeing 777 aircrafts.
As for nearby destinations, flights to Yerevan, Baku, Dushanbe, Khudzhand, Tashkent (with increasing frequency), etc. continued. S7 Airlines resumed air service with Karaganda twice a week.
In accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 25 December, 2013, No. 1242 the regional route network of Tolmachevo Airport was expanded to include such destinations as: Omsk and North Yeniseisk and the directions of Baykit, Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, Khanty-Mansiysk, Gorno-Altaysk, Noyabrsk, Strezheva, Novy Urengoy are subsidized in 2017.
Tolmachevo Airport together with the basic airline S7 Airlines continues the implementation of the regional air transportation development program, which features active use of the Novosibirsk airport as a docking hub on the routes between the cities of the south of Russia, Siberia, the Far East and Central Asia using a new type of regional Embraer 170 airplanes.
Due to the joint work with airline partners, the volumes of air transportation through Tolmachevo airport are growing at a high rate. With the share of transfer passengers in the total passenger traffic, the Novosibirsk airport approached the leading airports of the Moscow aviation hub. This year, the transfer of passenger traffic was about 1 million people, and its share in the overall passenger flow was 20%.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the international terminal capacity – up to 1300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II Categories.
