Musical flash mob before the Olympic flight to Sochi
In the morning on February 14, 2014, the Siberian State Academic Russian Folk Choir gave live performance at Novosibirsk Tolmachevo airport. The artists presented the part of their concert programme specially prepared for the cultural events of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
The Siberian Choir prepared a unique performance for morning passengers and guests of the airport — musical flash mob: when proceeding for check-in among other passengers, the musicians started singing Russian folk songs, then they were joined by dancers who demonstrated lively energetic moves. The morning improvised concert charged passengers and guests of the airport with positive vibes and good pre-flight mood. After the show, the team departed for the capital of the Olympics on direct Novosibirsk — Sochi Flight P2 5969 with ORENAIR airlines.
The Siberian Choir continued “cultural marathon”: at the same hour, the return Sochi Flight P2 5970 with another performers onboard landed at the airport — Bis Band wind orchestra of the children’s music school of the Karasuk district (Novosibirsk region) who earlier had already presented their live set at the airport before leaving for Sochi.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Novosibirsk region in association with Novosibirsk Tolmachevo airport. Chashka Kofe, a coffee house chain in Novosibirsk, was announced as a partner of the event.
Live sets performed by creative teams hosted by NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport within the series of events dedicated to the Year of Culture in the Novosibirsk region have already become traditional. The airport will continue to contribute to this project providing its performance venues to various artists and musical groups from the region. Within the next few days before another Sochi flight departure as well, the airport will host the Siberian Dixieland jazz orchestra.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the international terminal capacity — up to 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II Categories. In 2013 the passenger traffic exceeded 3.748 mln passengers and cargo traffic totalled 29.9 thousand tons of cargo and mail handled.In 2014 the airport expects to serve 4.2 mln passengers and handle over 32 thousand tons of cargo and mail.
The Siberian State Academic Russian Folk Choir is one of the first professional teams of the Russian traditional culture in the Novosibirsk region. The group was created in anticipation of the Soviet people’s victory over the Nazi Germany in 1945. Their debut took place on May 9, 1945 on the stage of the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. The rich artistic heritage allows the ensemble to create vivid choral, dance and musical pieces constituting “the golden reserves” of the Russian traditional art. Up-to-date, the team comprises 80 people — choir singers, ballet dancers and orchestra performers — all talented artists with special professional skills. Its repertoire includes 15 vocal and choreographic shows participated by the choir, ballet, orchestra and more than 500 songs and 16 orchestral adaptations.
