Tolmachevo Airport Served a Record Jubilee Passenger Since the Beginning of the Year

On 24 November 2017, Novosibirsk Tolmachevo airport reached a new record level in the history of the number of passengers since the beginning of year – 4, 5 million. Jubilee passenger was a Beijing resident – Mr. Zhao Jianping who flew from Novosibirsk to Moscow on an S7 184 flight of S7 Airlines with a transfer stop in Novosibirsk airport.

The jubilee passenger was congratulated by representatives of the airport and the airline. Tolmachevo airport presented a memorable gift. The airline gave Mr. Zhao a free flight on one of the directions of its route network. A partner of the airport a network of coffee houses «Cup of Coffee» has prepared a sweet treat for guests – a festive cake.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Zhao Jianping is a transfer passenger of Tolmachevo airport. For travel in Russia he chose convenient connection in Novosibirsk offered by the S7 Airlines in the direction of Beijing – Novosibirsk – Moscow.

The airport strengthens its role as an aviation hub on the most important routes between Europe, Asia and the Far East, and aims at the development of transfer hub, which is a natural consequence of the convenient geographical location of the airport. In 2012 Tolmachevo handled just 133 thousand transfer passengers, but in 2016 the number already exceeded 660 thousand. For ten months 2017 the number of transfer passengers that use Novosibirsk airport as a hub, increased by 51.5 % compared to the same period last year. Their share in total passenger traffic amounted 20 % approaching the figures of the airports of the Moscow.

Within the Tolmachevo airport’s network the airport provides a number of convenient connections on the routes from China to Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, far East to Central Asia and vice versa. The development of air carriages using Embraer 170 by S7 Airlines gives additional opportunities for transfer passengers from regional to long-haul routes.

It should be noted, that in 2011 the airport passenger traffic reached 2,7 million and overcame a high record level since 1991, which was a peak in passenger traffic for the airport. The first three-millionth passenger since the beginning of year Tolmachevo airport served in 2012 and the first of its four-millionth passenger since of beginning of year was served in 2016.

The achieved record was possible because of active work on expansion of the route network and increase of flight frequency on existing directions.

In 2017 new regular flights to Dusseldorf, Tbilisi, Salekhard, Omsk, Plentywood, etc. were opened from the airport. The growth of passenger traffic was promoted by the program of development of regional routes of the base S7 Airlines. This year S7 Airlines opened regular flights from Novosibirsk to Issyk-Kul, Omsk, Abakan, Perm, Noyabrsk, Tyumen, Gorno-Altaysk, Nizhnevartovsk and Chelyabinsk operated by Embraer 170.

For a number of destinations such as St. Petersburg, Sochi, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk, Chita, Chelyabinsk, Abakan and others the frequency of flights has considerably increased. Also the frequency of flights to the cities of Kazakhstan (resumed flights to Karaganda) and Central Asia – Astana, Almaty, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Shymkent, Bishkek, Osh, etc. has increased.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the international terminal capacity – up to 1300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II Categories.
