Tomachevo Airport and Air Astana Strengthen Cooperation
Air Astana, a partner of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport, held a meeting with partnering airports named “From the Heart of Eurasia with Air Astana”. The meeting took place in Astana on August 13-14, and General Manager of JSC Airport Tolmachevo Yevgeny Yankilevich was among its participants.
Novosibirsk airport representatives studied the plans of the airline, including direct and transfer passenger traffic development. The participants of the meeting also attended the international purpose-oriented exhibition EXPO-2017 held in Astana.
It is worth noting that Novosibirsk is among the most important airports for the routes of Air Astana. Flights between Astana and Novosibirsk contribute to develop business, economic and cultural contacts between the capital of Kazakhstan and the Siberian Federal District, and have a large transfer potential for the passengers of Novosibirsk and Astana airports.
Since flights on the route Astana – Novosibirsk – Astana were launched on June 1, 2017, it became possible for the passengers in Novosibirsk and neighbouring Siberian cities to enjoy additional opportunities of comfortable connecting flights from Astana to Almaty, other cities of Kasakhstan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, India and Europe. People from the European Russia, from the Far East of Russia as well as from Kazakhstan are also welcome to enjoy transfer services of Tolmachevo airport.
Air Astana airline has been Tolmachevo’s partner since June 15, 2009, the date when the first flight was performed on the route Astana – Novosibirsk – Astana on turboprop aircraft Fokker-50. As passenger traffic grew and the airline renovated its aircraft fleet, Air Astana started performing the flights on larger aircraft Embraer 190. Within cooperation time, the airline has served about 175 thousand passengers on the route.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the international terminal capacity – up to 1300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II Categories.
Air Astana is a joint venture of the National welfare fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Samruk-Kazyna" and BAE Systems with respective 51% and 49% shares. Air Astana has started performing regular flights from 15 May, 2002 and at present has a route network that includes more than 60 international and domestic flights performed from hubs located in Almaty and Astana. The airline's fleet consists of 31 Western aircraft Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 757-200, Airbus A320 and Embraer E190. The airline became the first air carrier among the countries of CIS and Eastern Europe, which was awarded a prestigious 4 star rating of the international agency Skytrax in 2012 and the title of the best airline in Central Asia and India. Both awards were confirmed in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
