In the panel discussion called “Transport in the Future” of the forum’s section “Young Specialists in the Sector of Transport”, Yevgeny Yankilevich presented his report “The air silk road: how can Russia grow rich out of air”. In particular, it touches upon development potential and opportunities of Novosibirsk in the field of Russian and international air transport logistics. Being located between two significant economic centres, Europe and Asia, the distance between which is measured in thousands of kilometers, Novosibirsk airport becomes the largest cargo, mail and express mail distribution center.

Concentration of flows of commodities and funds in the USA – EU – Asia (Japan, China, South Korea) triangle proves business’s interest and high need for air transportation. “It once again proves the forecasts about the modern air hubs. They are becoming centres to attract enterprises in different business areas, from logistics to hospitality industry,” according to Yevgeny Yankilevich.

Yevgeny Yankilevich mentioned the United Arab Emirates as a successful example of turning into a transport hub of international significance. Advantageous geographical location made it possible for the country to become an international business and tourist centre in the conditions of low dependence of its economics on oil. The country has a developed transit infrastructure including six international airports, among which is one of the largest airports – the airport of Dubai. So the passenger traffic of Dubai airport has increased more than nine times within the last 18 years.

“By 2030, Tolmachevo airport will have to become the largest logistics centre on “the Air Silk Road” between Asia, Europe and America. Some people may find our plans to be too ambitious, but the progress we have managed to make within the last 15 years having increased Tolmachevo airport’s passenger traffic three times and the share of transfer passengers – 8 times, proves that we can expect them to come true,” added Yevgeny Yankilevich.

Russian Educational Youth Forum “Terra Scientia on Klyazma River” has been held annually since 2015. Its aim is to work out a common opinion about the future for its participants. Among the events taking place within the framework of one of the forum’s topical sessions “Young Specialists in the Sector of Transport” are discussions and topic-based seminars aiming to develop professional potential and to reveal individual one. Heads of Russian and foreign transport organizations, experts from social and research organizations, students, postgraduates, advanced students and young staff members of transport companies take part in the forum events.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia.
