The Aviators Sculpture Unveiled at Novosibirsk Airport

On May 8, 2017, sculptural composition Aviators was officially unveiled at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport.

The Aviators sculptural group is composed of two bronze figures of a pilot and a technician standing on the pedestal. It is created and installed by the 72 anniversary of the Victory in the memory of aviators of the Great Patriotic War. Authors team: Alexander Krutikov, sculptor, member of the Artists Union of the USSR and Russia, Honorary Artist of Russia, Viktor Trotsenko, Roman Trotsenko.

The Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Vladimir Gorodetsky, veteran of the Great Patriotic War, the Hero of the Soviet Union, co-chairman of the regional organizing committee Victory Dmirty Bakurov, acting head of the West Siberian Interregional Territorial Department of Rosaviation Vyacheslav Sorogovets, General Director of JSC Tolmachevo Airport Evgeniy Yankilevich took part in the official unveiling of the sculpture.

In his welcoming speech the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Vladimir Gorodetsky congratulated the participants on the Victory Day and stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the great feat of the Soviet people in the Second World War.

"During the years of war the Novosibirsk region didn't become the active battlefield but it contributed to the victory with the work feats. Every day one regiment went off to war from the plant named after Chkalov, each fourth shell fired in the lines was assembled at the Sibselmash plant. In September we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Novosibirsk region and the installation of the Aviators sculpture at the airport will become one of the brightest events of the anniversary year and will allow preserving the memory of Novosibirsk residents, the heroes of those years", told Vladimir Gorodetsky.

"The history of Tolmachevo airport began with the military airfield, where in the prewar years and the first year of the Great Patriotic War the aviation school of the Red Army Air Force pilots and later training military air regiments were deployed. Thousands of pilots, aircraft technicians and aircraft mechanics were trained and retrained for newest types of fighter planes and sent to the front, where they fought in various military forces. Shoulder to shoulder, in one formation they forged the Great Victory'', General Director of JSC Airport Tolmachevo Evgeniy Yankilevich said at the unveiling. "This sculpture is designed as a symbol of youth, strength, courage and endless faith in the victory of our aviators'', he noted.
