Border control point to be expanded in NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport
As a part of modernization of the passenger terminal complex at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport, the number of passport control booths will be doubled, from 6 to 12 (on both arrival and departure).
The Federal target program State Border of the Russian Federation (2012-2020) provides for allocation of more than 200 million rubles for upgrading border checkpoint at Novosibirsk airport by 2016. Currently, the management of Airport Tolmachevo JSC in cooperation with the Federal Agency on State Border Infrastructure Development of the Russian Federation (Rosgranitsa) are exploring the possibility of shifting works deadline to an earlier date. The state customer on equipping of border checkpoint is Rosgranstroy FGKU (State-owned Federal State Institution).
These measures are due to growing passenger traffic, as well as an increase in the number of passenger complaints concerning conditions of the passport control. In January-July 2013, NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport handled 850,548 passengers on international flights, which is 27% higher than in the same period last year. At the moment, the complex of measures aimed at optimizing of border control procedures at the airport is carried out. This will allow Border Control Service to become more responsive to congestion of passengers in front of the passport control booths.
After the reconstruction being completed, the border checkpoint will fully comply with high growth of passenger traffic at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport and meet the current requirements for passenger service. At the same time, as a result of modernization, the area of Terminal B is expected to increase from 11,000 to 24,000 m2 and the terminal capacity will grow up to 1,300 passengers per hour. To enhance the level of passenger service, a new baggage handling system, two extra jet bridges, escalators and elevators for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs) are planned to be installed, as well as business lounge and parenting room being furnished. Construction works of the linking gallery between Terminal A and Terminal B are also to be fulfilled.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic airline capacity makes up 1,800 passengers per hour, on international flights – 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways. In 2013 it expects to serve over 3.7 million passengers.
