The international passenger terminal to be equipped with up-to-date baggage processing system
As a part of the passenger terminal complex modernization, a new baggage processing and passenger check-in system to be equipped in the international passenger terminal of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport.
The facilities will be available both in the Arrival area and Departure hall of Terminal B. Check-in area will become an “island” implying two baggage lines with seven desks per each. Overall capacity of the system estimates up to 1,200 bags handled per hour. All checked baggage to be processed via three-state control system in order to meet all aviation safety requirements. Engineering design of the check-in area implies its further expansion: mounting of three extra desks on both operating lines as well as launch of the third one with 10 desks. The Arrival area to be equipped with baggage offloading lines with two U- and O-shaped carousels extended in both dimensions compared to the operating equipment.
Following the results of the tender issued by the airport at the end of April 2013, the delivery contract of the baggage processing system produced by the company Motion06 (Austria) was concluded. The investment is worth 2.155 million Euros. The total sum implies design work, delivery (including all required interfaces and in-built baggage screening function), installation and integration into the airport’s operating security inspection system. The project deadline is set for November 2013.
Application of the new baggage processing system will be another phase in the passenger terminal complex modernization of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport. The floor space of the international passenger terminal is supposed to be expanded from 11,000 m2 up to 24,000 m2, while its capacity to be doubled (up to 1,500 passengers per hour). In order to improve quality of passenger service, the renovated building is expected to be equipped with two extra jet bridges, escalators, elevators for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs) as well as business lounge and parenting room. By 2015 construction works of the linking gallery between the domestic and international passenger terminals are planned to be completed.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic airline capacity makes up 1,800 passengers per hour, on international flights – 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways. In 2013 it expects to serve over 3.7 million passengers.
