NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport welcomes participants and guests of the International Children’s Games SPORTS – ARTS – INTELLECT

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport welcomes participants, fans and guests of the International Children’s Games Sports – Arts – Intellect.

About 800 talented athletes under the age of 14 from Russia and abroad will arrive in Novosibirsk to compete for the title of absolute winner of the Games – “Olimpionik”. The first to arrive at NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport were guests from the Far East region – the football team from Khabarovsk and the volleyball team from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Later the athletes will be joined by the delegations from Volgograd, Nizhnevartovsk, Moscow, Nakhodka, Khanty-Mansiysk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Yakutia, Strezhevoy along with representatives from Kyrgyzstan, South Korea and Japan.

Members of the organizing committee of ICG-2013 placed its round-the-clock headquarters in the passenger terminal of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport in order to meet and greet participants and guests of the event. In its turn, the airport personnel provided all necessary requirements for comfortable and safe stay of children in the terminal building.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The domestic airline capacity makes up 1,800 passengers per hour, on international flights – 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways. In 2013 it expects to serve over 3.7 million passengers. The airport has been nominated for World Routes Awards in the category “The Best Airport of CIS 2012”.

International Children’s Games SPORTS – ARTS – INTELLECT are conducted to promote ideas of the Olympic movement, for the development of youth sports, to create opportunities for realization of the participants’ creativity and intellectual potential as well as to strengthen international sports cooperation. The Municipality of Novosibirsk acted as the initiator of the Games. The project was supported by the Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture of Russia. About 3,000 children under the age of 14 from 76 cities of Russia, CIS and foreign countries will compete in 21 sport disciplines as well as in intellectual quizzes and art contests. The program also includes the Deaflympics and Paralympic sports.
