Passenger Traffic of Novosibirsk Airport Increased by 10.6% in 2016

Following the results, of 2016, NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport handled 4,097,490 passengers, which is 10.6% more than in 2015. Passenger traffic on domestic routes amounted to 3,017,226 people, on international routes – 1,080,264 people.

It is worth noting that in 2016 Tolmachevo airport handled the four millionth passenger since the beginning of the year for the first time in its history.

In 2016 the largest growth of passenger traffic was noted on the routes from Novosibirsk to Tyumen (+130%), Kazan (+97%), Sochi (+89%), Yekaterinburg (+88%), Krasnodar (+77%), Chita (+55%), Anapa (+49%), Blagoveshchensk (+45%). The demand remained steady on routes from Novosibirsk to cities of the CIS countries. Air traffic volume on flights to Ust-Kamenogorsk (+59%), Namangan (+63%), Khujand (+46%), Almaty (+45%), Fergana (+40%) and others has increased significantly.

In 2016 there were positive trends in passenger traffic recovery to cities of far-abroad countries. There is growth on the following destinations: Krabi (+98%), Seoul (+75%), Larnaca (+74%), Thessaloniki (+49%), Munich (+48%), Urumqi (+23%) and others.

Growth of passenger traffic on regional routes in 2016 exceeded by 20% the figures of 2015 – 502,615 passengers were carried on regional flights. Flights to eight destinations were performed in 2016 within the framework of the state subsidy program for regional aviation, the number of passengers on these flights amounted to 69,109 people. 11 destinations were subsidized in 2015, 66,725 passengers were carried. The number of routes from Novosibirsk subsidized within the framework of the program of state support for air transportation of passengers from Far East to European part of the country and back in 2016 doubled in comparison with 2015. Also, frequency of flights to Simferopol has increased strongly.

Thanks to development of transfer traffic the number of passengers using Tolmachevo airport as a transfer hub amounted to more than 650,000 following the results of 2016. This figure is by 70% higher than the one of 2015. The share of transfer passenger traffic of the airport exceeded 16%.

Following the results of 2016 Tolmachevo airport handled 43,776 aircraft movements (+4.9% to the same period of 2015).

24,882 tons of cargo and mail (+4.9% to 2015) were handled for the twelve months of 2016.

In 2016 NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport in cooperation with partner airlines opened flights on a number of new destinations, such as Shanghai, Hammamet, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Perm, Mineralnye Vody, Baikit. Flights on the regional routes to Strezhevoy, Abakan, Kyzyl, Novy Urengoy, etc. were continued. Frequency of flights increased on many existing domestic routes. Charter services between Novosibirsk and Sanya as well as regular and charter flights to Turkey were resumed after the break. China Southern Airlines, one of the foreign partners of the airport, resumed flights to Urumqi.

The work on expansion of Tolmachevo airport route will be continued in 2017. It is planned to open regular flights to Dusseldorf, Tbilisi, Karaganda, Salekhard, Omsk. The list of subsidized destinations from Novosibirsk to Far East will remain at the level of eight routes, the list of subsidized regional routes will increase to 10. Further increase of flights frequency is expected on a number of routes (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk, Norilsk, Chita, Chelyabinsk and others). Increase of flights frequency to cities of Kazakhstan and Central Asia – Astana, Almaty, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Bishkek, Osh, etc. is also expected.

NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity of domestic terminal makes up to 1,800 passengers per hour, while the international terminal capacity – up to 1300 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways of ICAO I and II Categories.
