Lots of the World's Only Barter Auction "Sbagrie’s" are Presented in Tolmachevo Airport

On 14 October an exhibition of the contemporary art auction Sbagrie’s lots opened in NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport. The airport area became the third one in Novosibirsk for pre-auction exhibitions of this project.

The exhibition occupied the first floor of the passenger terminal in the registration area of Section B and will run till October 28. There one can see the works of artists and find out more about the rules for conduction and opportunities of participation in the auction itself.

Sbagrie’s is a unique barter auction, where the paintings of the artists can be bartered for food or any other things at the artist's desire. For the first time Sbagrie’s took place in Novosibirsk in 2010. Since last year it was decided to hold it annually. 26 lots were put up for auction and 24 barter contracts were concluded in 2015. One of the works was sold for 6 000 000 buckwheat groats (approximately 170-180 kg). This year the auction has expanded its geography and the number of participants – 39 works were sent from 26 authors from Novosibirsk, Saint Petersburg, Minsk, Yerevan and Donetsk.

"Organization of exhibition for Tolmachevo airport is a peculiar act of support for contemporary art on the one hand and the desire to create interesting cultural space for our passengers on the other", notes General Director of JSC Airport Tolmachevo Evgeniy Yankilevich.

"Sbagrie’s auction is a collective performance, which gives its participants a new experience of struggling for a piece of art. It shows that one doesn't have to be a millionaire to support art and set records at auctions. As for the authors, this project gives them an impulse for creation of new works", says the auction curator Denis Efremov.

"Sbagrie’s" is a unique barter auction, a non-profit event, whereby all the food and things obtained are received commission-free. Auction goals: attract attention of general public as well as of collectors, patrons of arts and connoisseurs to contemporary artists, their works and art in general; create an environment where artists could sell their works, including non-profit ones; foster the dialogue on the value of art in the contemporary world.
