Tolmachevo Airport Conducts e-Freight Testing
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport continues to work on implementation of e-freight standard of paperless registration and tracking of air cargo on the basis of Customs Gateway solution, developed by JSC TransInfoTeh.
Tolmachevo airport is a participant of the pilot project on introduction of e-freight in Russia. The first flight using the standard has been served at the airport in 2012.
Application of the e-freight standard in servicing of air cargo has a number of advantages for all participants in the process. The standard significantly accelerates and simplifies the interaction between shippers, airlines and the controlling public authorities (including the Federal Customs Service). As a result service cycle and registration of regular cargo traffic can be significantly shortened. In addition, e-freight provides the reliability and accuracy of the information about the cargo - the data is entered only once at the point of dispatch.
The status of testing was discussed at the IV International Transport of Siberia Forum held in Novosibirsk in May by the management of the Tolmachevo airport and Innovation Center of Civil Aviation (consulting company supervising the implementation of e-freight in Russia).
Using the e-freight at the airport could become an additional advantage for attracting new freight carriers, as the standard is recommended by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to be used in countries with developed air cargo transportation system and is widely used by the leaders of this market.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest transit air hub in the Asian part of Russia. The airport has two runways, provides handling services of regular cargo flights for both Russian and foreign airlines such as AirBridgeCargo, Volga-Dnepr, Cargolux, Cargolux Italia, Yangtze River Express and others. The capacity of the freight complex Tolmachevo Cargo makes up 50,000 tons per year. In 2014 cargo traffic totalled 28.6 thousand tons of cargo and mail handled.
