Development of Regional Air Transportation
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport registers growth in passenger traffic on regional routes as a result of the state subsidy program which became a serious stimulus for the development of regional passenger air transportation.
During the period of the state subsidy program action the number of regional routes from Novosibirsk has increased from 9 to 16. Seven of them are currently subsidized in accordance with the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation dated December 25, 2013 №1242: Gorno-Altaisk, Novokuznetsk, Strezhevoi, Khanty-Mansiysk, Omsk, Abakan and Kyzyl.
Following the results of 2014 the airport served more than 51 thousand of passengers on the subsidized regional routes (with route length up to 1,200 km). For comparison, in 2012, before the start of the government subsidy program, the number of passengers on these routes was about 7.7 thousand, in 2013 - more than 39 thousand.
The positive dynamics of regional passenger traffic at Novosibirsk airport is also promoted by a consistent work of the airport specialists on attracting regional airlines. Only during 2013 Tolmachevo airport expanded its cooperation with a number of the largest regional airlines in the Siberian Federal District.
Thus, the airport became a base airport for aircraft of such airlines as Angara Airlines (An-148), KrasAvia (An-24), IrAero (Bombardier CRJ-200). Passengers travelling by regional airlines are able to use an extensive route network of NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport with the possibility of transferring to the medium- and long-haul flights, including scheduled and charter international flights.
NOVOSIBIRSK International Airport is the largest air hub in Russia east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia.
